HSNO Experts’ Testimony Leads to 2006’s 4th-Largest U.S. Jury Verdict

On August 14, 2001, a pipe elbow ruptured at a crude oil refinery in Chicago causing a fire that substantially destroyed the refinery’s crude oil processing unit. The refinery recovered a portion of their losses from their property damage and business interruption insurers. The insurers (who asserted their subrogation rights) and the refinery filed suit against the pipe elbow manufacturer. HSNO experts testified at trial regarding property damage and business interruption losses. Based in part on that testimony, the jury returned a verdict of $455 million. The $455 million jury verdict was the 4th largest in the U.S. in 2006.
